Anna came upon an African snail laying eggs yesterday. It was right before a big rain storm, and all the eggs were washed away about 15 minutes after she found it. I think the snail must have been sick or dying, because she was laying eggs on the sidewalk, instead of in the dirt. Maybe she sensed the rain coming and knew somehow that her eggs would never survive? The instincts God gave His creatures are pretty crazy cool.

Itā€™s one of those random once in a life time, canā€™t plan on, type things that always has me in awe of how God is wooing my kids to Himself. Godā€™s creation is a childā€™s play ground, discovery center, and school. Since moving to a city from a very rural area, it has been hard to find ways to be outside, especially in the heat. The beach is at least an hour away, through lots of traffic and potholed roads. We can see the ocean from our house, and we have one of the best views in the city, for sure, with gorgeous sunsets in full view from the comfort of our living room. But to get to the ocean is a bit more difficult. Quite different from the Land of Many Nature Trails, Michigan.

Itā€™s been quite the adjustment for me, trying to figure out how to enjoy Godā€™s creation in a city on a tropical island. I feel like it should not be this hard. šŸ˜‚ For now I am thankful for the times we have managed to get to the many beaches, rivers, or waterfalls. I am thankful for snails šŸŒ and their eggs. And I am thankful for the rainbows that come after the storms.

A white sand beach that we had to take a small boat to get to. The event was paid for by donors of missionary friends of ours, and it was lovely to be away from the city.

Side note: Anna asked if she could keep 2 eggs and watch them hatch, before the rain came and washed all the eggs away. (African snails can lay up to 500 eggs at once.) I said yes, and we have two in a small jar with dirt. Stay tunedā€¦we shall see if they hatch.
